NEXIO Volt™

MediaCore™ Engine
MediaCore™ is a high-performance, 64-bit software engine that controls all low-level NEXIO Volt functionality. This multi-stream module manages real-time transactions and system status updates, as well as RAIDsoft™, the NEXIO software RAID and disk storage management system. MediaCore employs task-specific, multi-core CPU/FPGA processing to effortlessly handle all baseband video I/O. The result is real-time, high-bit-rate coding and decoding that enables NEXIO Volt to ingest and play out up to four channels simultaneously. The module can be controlled via the NEXIO suite of software applications, and third-party automation and control panels.

RAIDsoft Storage Protection
NEXIO Volt runs the Harris-patented and Emmy® Award-winning RAIDsoft software RAID management system, which allows all channels and network ports to simultaneously access content without restriction. NEXIO Volt supports RAIDsoft RAID-3, RAID-6, ECC and patented Intrinsic Mirroring schemes for protection against drive failures. The intelligent RAIDsoft system keeps a cached copy of the frame allocation table (FAT) in RAM and redundant copies on disk, providing exceptional system resiliency. This approach also translates to fast searching for content and assured access to metadata, whether requested via VDCP serial or Ethernet control.

Remote Management
Remote monitoring and system management are easily enabled as standard via SNMP, and support for Magellan NMS remote diagnostics and management is included. Since NEXIO Volt offers support for headless operation, a display, keyboard and mouse need not be connected to set up and manage system hardware. NEXIO Volt supports management using IPMI for remote software KVM access and control. It also supports the Magellan Log Server for application logging and diagnosis.

Channel control is supported via the industry-standard VDCP protocol and via NEXIO native protocol over Ethernet. The NEXIO Volt server responds in exactly same way as the proven NEXIO AMP® server, resulting in straightforward integration with existing automation systems.

Channel Configurations
NEXIO Volt supports 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4- channel operating modes. The available modes will depend on the licensing applied to the server via the NEXIO Software License Key (SLK). The following table lists all the standard modes:

Codec Support
NEXIO Volt supports the same codecs as NEXIO AMP. Available codecs and data rates for the different channel counts are shown in the table below for SD and HD resolutions. Some channel configurations are restricted by codec or Ethernet shared storage. Contact your salesperson for details.

NEXIO Volt enhances the ingest density for production applications with support for 3 Gb/s 1080p support.

Shared Storage Connectivity
NEXIO Volt connects as standard to the NEXIO shared storage via redundant Gigabit Ethernet and enjoys the same level of content sharing as all other NEXIO servers — instant access to all content, all the time, by all users, without restrictions. The optional Fibre Channel (FC) interface enables direct access to NEXIO shared storage.

NEXIO Remote
NEXIO Remote is an application that provides control of any eight NEXIO server channels in a NEXIO system using a standard PC over a standard LAN connection.

NEXIO Playlist
NEXIO Playlist is an event-sequencing application that can be used for play-to-air operations such as commercial insertion, time-of-day events, moving backgrounds and more. NEXIO Playlist runs on standard PC hardware over a standard LAN connection.

NEXIO ClipSync
NEXIO ClipSync is an optional application that allows NEXIO Volt to play two clips in sync for key-plus-fill and similar applications when the two elements exist as separate clips.

NEXIO Delay
NEXIO Delay is an optional application that applies a delay to an air channel for safety in live-to-air transmissions, or for time zone-specific playback delay.

NEXIO AMP Track Router
NEXIO AMP Track Router is a user interface for NEXIO Remote that can be used to control audio track tagging, addition, deletion, shuffling and playback routing. NEXIO AMP Track Router also adds the ability to import, export and manage closed caption files.
